Winter weather is on the way! Here's a checklist to prepare.
Winter is here! If you have not prepped your home for the freezing temperatures there is still time. There are some easy ways to prepare your home to maximize your efficiency and focus on safety!
Home Interior
- Check and replace weather stripping
- Get furnace serviced - replace filter
- Get chimney swept
- Flush hot water heater
- Set thermostat for winter
- Wash blankets and throws
- Identify pipes that run along exterior walls and insulate as needed
- Caulk around windows and doors if gap exists
Home Exterior
- Clear away debris from downspouts
- Check outdoor lighting and replace bulbs
- Check vents and openings
- Clean off debris from roof
- Inspect Roof and repair damage
- Inspect and repair fence
- Cover and insulate exterior water faucets
Don't forget to leave your cabinets open during freezing temperatures. Your interior pipes won't freeze if they are room temperature. Plumbing that is located on exterior walls, like a kitchen sink that is under a window is more likely to freeze. Leave the water on a slow drip during extreme freezing temperatures, but not running.
